China Rejects US Allegations of Excess Production Amid Trade Probe
Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing’s stance on economic and trade issues with the US is “consistent and clear.” The US investigation, announced Wednesday, seeks to examine structural overcapacity in manufacturing sectors to determine whether related practices are “unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict US commerce.”
Guo emphasized that China “will oppose any form of unilateral tariff measures,” noting that “tariff and trade wars serve no one's interests.” He urged both sides to resolve the matter through dialogue “on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit.”
“The so-called overcapacity is not true, China opposes using it as a pretext for political manipulation,” Guo added.
