Russia, China Resume Cross-Border Rail Service

(MENAFN) The rail connection between Russia and China has resumed operations following a six-year suspension, with the first passenger train crossing the border in the Trans-Baikal region.

Aleksandr Osipov, Governor of the Trans-Baikal region, participated in a ceremonial event on Sunday, marking the restoration of transportation links between the two nations, according to a statement from the regional branch of Russian Railways.

"Today, March 8, after nearly a six-year break, international train No. 354/353 on the Zabaykalsk – Manzhouli route departed from Zabaykalsk station. The first passengers of the cross-border service were welcomed by the heads of the Trans-Baikal Railway and the Trans-Baikal District," the announcement noted.

The train service is scheduled to run throughout the year, twice weekly, leaving Zabaykalsk in Russia and Manzhouli in China every Wednesday and Sunday.

Operations of the international train were halted in February 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
