Trump, Xi Hold Call Ahead of Beijing Visit
According to the US leader, the dialogue covered a wide range of topics, including "trade, military, the April trip that I will be making to China (which I very much look forward to!), Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the current situation with Iran, the purchase of oil and gas by China from the United States," along with several additional issues of mutual interest.
Trump also indicated that Beijing is considering the possible acquisition of more American agricultural goods, in addition to outstanding shipments of aircraft engines.
Commenting on bilateral ties, Trump emphasized the strength of both institutional and personal connections, writing, "The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way."
He added on his Truth Social account, "I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency having to do with President Xi, and the People’s Republic of China!"
Earlier, Chinese officials acknowledged that the call had taken place, though they released limited information about its content.
Relations between Beijing and Washington have shown signs of steadiness since Xi and Trump met in South Korea in late October.
That meeting was widely viewed as a step forward, with both governments highlighting advancements toward resolving long-standing trade disagreements that had previously unsettled global financial markets.
