China Calls for Syria Peace Deal
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed journalists in the Chinese capital, expressing his nation's position on the evolving Syrian crisis.
"China hopes that Syria will realize peace and stability as soon as possible," Guo declared during the Beijing briefing.
The spokesman continued: "We hope all parties in Syria will facilitate the process of political settlement through dialogue and negotiation and find a way to rebuild the country that in the interest of the Syrian people."
China's statement comes as Syrian military forces have reclaimed substantial territory across the nation's eastern and northeastern regions. The offensive was triggered after the SDF repeatedly breached agreements finalized with Damascus approximately twelve months earlier, according to official sources.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa revealed a fresh ceasefire arrangement Sunday, alongside plans for complete SDF incorporation into governmental structures.
The newly brokered deal mandates SDF forces to pull back their combat units to positions east of the Euphrates River. Administrative authority and security responsibilities for Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces will transition to Syrian state control under the terms.
Additional provisions outline the absorption of SDF military and security forces into Syria's defense and interior ministries, contingent upon individual background screenings. Border facilities, petroleum infrastructure, natural gas operations, and civilian administrative bodies will likewise transfer to government oversight.
The Assad administration collapsed in December 2024 following nearly a quarter-century grip on power. Al-Sharaa assumed the presidency this past January.
