Beijing Confirms Stance on Taiwan’s Independence

(MENAFN) On Monday, authorities in Beijing reinforced their unwavering position regarding Taiwan, asserting that they would “never allow anyone or any force to separate” the self-governed island from China.

This firm declaration came in response to recent statements made by US President Donald Trump concerning Taiwan's status and Chinese intentions.

President Trump recently claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping had assured him that China "will not invade" Taiwan during Trump’s term in office.

These remarks prompted a direct response from China's leadership.

Speaking to journalists in Beijing, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized that “Taiwan is inalienable part of China and the Taiwan question is an internal affair of China,” and added that “how to resolve the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese people.”

She underlined that China is committed to seeking peaceful reunification but will never tolerate any attempts to divide the island from the mainland.

Trump further stated that Xi personally told him: “he will never do” such an invasion while serving as president.

Trump recalled replying, “Well, I appreciate that,” to which Xi responded: “But I am very patient and China is very patient.”

Although the United States does not officially recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation — in accordance with the diplomatic posture of most countries — it remains the island’s primary supplier of military equipment and a key supporter on the global stage.

China views Taiwan as a “breakaway province,” a stance it has maintained since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.

Meanwhile, Taiwan continues to assert its autonomy, resisting Beijing's claims of sovereignty.
